Strong Medicine for Brazos Hogs

Feral hogs are tough. They have tough hides, live in tough country and demand a tough gun and load to bring down.

The gun we used on our trip is the .52 caliber Knight Extreme. The .52 Extreme features Knight’s Power Stem breech plug, which ignites the powder column further forward to increase velocity by 11 percent and double the downrange energy at 200 yards. This gives the .52 Extreme 2 inches less drop than a magnum .50 caliber load.

Our load consisted of 150 grains of Triple 7 loose powder and a 375-grain bullet. With these heavy weights most hunters worry about recoil, but with the Knight’s uniform acceleration and Xcoil Recoil Pad, recoil is reduced up to 50 percent.

We used Red Hot Bullets by Barnes, which performed superbly on every hog shot. These hollow-point bullets are saboted with thinner petals in .52 caliber, which allows the bullet to release immediately for pinpoint accuracy.
