Iowa Whitetail Buck
Jack and his Iowa whitetail buck
Jack was on a five-day deer hunting trip in Iowa when he spotted his prize buck. "What turned out to be my largest buck to date came out chasing a doe," Jack said. "I was especially proud because I had to hunt him."
The hunt wasn't easy, considering Iowa's 15-degree weather and 30 mph winds that brought the wind chill well below zero. "I figured the deer had to find a good food supply to get ready for this cold weather," Jack thought. So he scouted along an 800-acre soy bean field for a section where there were plenty of beans on the ground. After finding a couple of good fresh trails and rubs, Jack waited for the deer to begin pouring out.
His opportunity arose when a buck followed a feeding doe out about 130 yards into the field. Jack positioned the crosshairs of his Knight Disc Extreme .52 caliber muzzleloader and squeezed the trigger for the shot of a lifetime. "What a fantastic hunt," Jack said. "It will live forever in my memory."
