Eastern Turkey Hunting

Ron with his Eastern wild turkey

Ron's 19 lbs. 7 oz. Turkey

In April of 2007, Ron harvested this rich brown Eastern wild turkey with his Knight muzzleloading shotgun. Weighing in at 19 pounds, 7 ounces with an impressive 11 ¾-inch beard, the turkey was one for the record books. One spur measured 1 1/8 inches, and the other 1 3/16th.

"It's my best ever Eastern," Ron said of the wild turkey's proud plumage and gleaming feathers. Eastern wild turkeys can grow to be among the largest of any of the subspecies. With a score of 66.0625, the wild turkey ranks #14 in the National Wild Turkey Federation records.

Ron loaded his Knight Rifles TK2000 with 90 grains of Triple 7 and 2 ounces of copper plated #6. "I've never had a misfire with this gun," Ron said. "It's a great product."
